Overview
IKEA, one of the leading retailers of finished goods in the world, installed a 1.125 MW solar array on its Renton, Washington facility. It is one of the largest IKEAs in the U.S. to be powered by the sun and was the largest rooftop solar installation in Washington State at the time of completion.
The FR510-6dg met strict requirements from the City of Renton on water runoff from the roof. Because it contains no metals that could leach into the water table, the FR510-6dg — injection-molded from BASF Ultramid polymer — does not rust, corrode, or produce toxic materials that could affect runoff. The inherent flexibility of the racking enabled it to contour to the large roof crickets across the building.
The Renton IKEA install was completed in January 2017 by a crew of fifteen in one month despite harsh weather conditions. The unique design of the FR510-6dg — requiring no assembly on the roof — enabled an installation rate of 2 kW per person-hour. The project also incorporated Sollega's string-inverter mount, which is quick to install and uses standard aluminum rail.
