Why this project worked
- 725 kW spread across three rooftops on the Ithaca campus
- Two module types — 95.12" and 79" — on the same racking and hardware
- Expansion and contraction coefficients match aluminum for extreme heat and cold
- Quick install minimized disruption to campus activity below
Overview
Arrays in the Northeast face brutal weather, and this project called for two different module types — the Q.PEAK DUO XL-G11.3/BFG and the TP2SM7 — across three rooftops. Looking to add 725 kW of flat-roof PV, Cornell University selected the Sollega FastRack 510-6dg.
Because the FR510 is pre-assembled and modular, the same units shift into wider or tighter positions to accommodate nearly any module — including multiple sizes within one project. Here the racking supports 868 95.12-inch Q.PEAK DUO XL-G11.3/BFGs and 591 79-inch TP2SM7s in neighboring arrays: the same FR510s, the same hardware, and the same quick, efficient install process.
Made in the U.S.A., the glass-reinforced nylon buckets ship, stage, and install quickly — which, on a busy college campus, meant minimal disruption to the activity below. The FR510 shares expansion and contraction coefficients with aluminum, so it easily withstands Ithaca's extreme heat and cold.
